#Okowa Denies ₦500bn Refund as Oborevwori Meets Tinubu, APC Leaders After Defection

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori paid his first official visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, just days after defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Describing the meeting as “insightful,” Oborevwori said the discussions were focused on unlocking long-term opportunities for development. “It was an honour to meet with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu earlier today at the Presidential Villa… We engaged in an insightful conversation that will unlock sustainable growth for the future,” the governor wrote on X.

President Tinubu also acknowledged the meeting, noting that discussions focused on the development needs and economic potential of Delta State. “Our administration remains committed to supporting state governments to foster long-term growth… Together, we must work towards building a brighter future for all Nigerians,” Tinubu posted.

Following his meeting with the president, Oborevwori also held closed-door talks with several APC governors, including Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), Uba Sani (Kaduna), and Abdullahi Sule (Nasarawa). Additionally, he met with APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje at his residence in Abuja, where they reportedly discussed both political matters and economic strategies.

Okowa Denies ₦500 Billion Refund Allegations

Meanwhile, former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has strongly denied claims that he refunded over ₦500 billion to the state government or to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to avoid prosecution.

Widespread rumours in Delta State allege that Okowa quietly returned the huge sum in exchange for political protection and leniency from anti-corruption authorities.

However, Okowa’s spokesperson, Olise Ifeajirika, dismissed the reports as completely unfounded. “It’s not true that my boss returned such money. The EFCC is at liberty to do its job,” he said.

He added that while Okowa had been invited for questioning and had responded to presented documents, the investigation remains ongoing. “Only when it is concluded and a case is established can issues of refunds or prosecution arise. There is no truth to claims of returning money,” Ifeajirika emphasized.
