RECOGNIZING AND APPRECIATING SUPPORT GROUPS AND FOOT SOLDIERS IS CRUCIAL IN RESOLVING TENSIONS WITHIN OUR PARTY
I hope this letter finds you well.
As Henry Ward Beecher once stated, “The unthankful heart discovers no mercies; but the thankful heart will find, in every hour, some heavenly blessings.”
Similarly, John F. Kennedy emphasized that “as we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.”
It is imperative that we prevent the deterioration of our party’s foundation. Prior to your presidency, the party structure was intact, thanks to your exceptional leadership. However, the party currently requires piloting, funding, re-calibration, and re-tooling. There are numerous issues, Mr. President. The party you left before assuming the presidency is now in a state of coma. The national headquarters is struggling, and rebranding is essential. The party, which should support its groups, is unable to do so due to a lack of synergy.
The support groups should be closely linked to the party, and the party should be connected to its leader, Mr. President. Unfortunately, there is a significant disconnect between the party and its support groups, with only a superficial relationship existing. This disparity is substantial and warrants immediate attention.
We must not allow our party, built since the AD, AC, ACN, and now APC, to disintegrate. The party should strive to reunite and discourage divisions. Those who have defected to other parties due to neglect should be consulted. The party and Mr. President should revive the reward mechanism to demonstrate the party’s commitment to its members’ interests.
Many issues arose before the last general election, contradicting our party’s principles. As devoted party stakeholders, we chose to remain calm. However, not everyone possesses the capacity to maintain composure in such situations, Mr. President.
There are numerous problems, Mr. President. Many of us who contributed to your presidential campaign are now excluded, while friends of your son and a few others with access to Hon. Faleke and Hon. Gbagabiamila have received appointments. Please, Mr. President, as the leader and father of the nation, also consider yourself the father of our great party, the APC. We have over 2,000 support groups under the APC. Initially, these groups united under the Amalgamated APC Support Groups. We wrote to the party to dissolve the AASG due to the misconduct of Dr. Nasiru Ladan and Hajia Mariam Danjaki. We then conducted elections to establish an elected leadership for the umbrella body of all APC support groups.
Upon completing the elections, we renamed ourselves from AASG to Unified AASG and eventually Consolidated APC Grassroots Movement (CaGRam). We have written letters to the party to engage with us, to no avail, to present the needs and desires of APC support groups.
Mr. President, I urge you to take decisive action and initiate a dialogue with all aggrieved party members. The more, the better. No one should be pushed out; instead, let us recruit more members.
I sincerely implore the party leadership across all states to join me in demanding peace, reconciliation, and solidarity.
Yours sincerely,
Comrade Okedara Kolawole,
National chairman Yoruba arts and cultural tradition group
National Strategist (Buhari Vanguard)
National Coordinator (Buhari Movement)
National Chairman (Movement for Greater Nigeria)
Southwest Coordinator (Amalgamated APC Grassroots Movement)
