Troops of the Nigerian Army have recorded major successes in Kogi State under Operation Egwua A Tite II, a sustained offensive launched on 1 September 2025 to stamp out banditry and restore peace in troubled communities.
According to a statement by Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 12 Brigade, Lokoja, troops of 126 Battalion—working alongside Other Hybrid Forces (OHF)—engaged bandits in the Tunga axis, neutralizing two during an intense firefight.
To further consolidate gains, the Commander 12 Brigade and Force Commander Operation Accord III, Brigadier General Kasim Umar Sidi, personally led follow-up operations. The sweep destroyed multiple bandit settlements and reinforced troop dominance through patrols and ambushes across the general area.
On 2 September, acting on credible intelligence, ground forces with close air support from the 405 Helicopter Combat Training Group launched a strike on bandits fleeing Ankomi. The joint mission neutralized scores of terrorists in the process.
Two days later, on 3 September, clearance operations were conducted in Aleke, Ungwan Soni, and Ungwan Nyaba. During the raid, troops rescued Mr. Pabo Suleiman and his two children, reuniting them safely with their family. Five locally made dane guns were recovered.
On 5 September, troops engaged bandits at a hideout near Tunga. Intelligence reports confirmed that notorious commander Kachalla Bala and five of his fighters were killed in the battle.
That same day, an ambush operation along the Agbede–Adankoo Bridge (Mosalanci Boka) successfully cut off a suspected supply route. One bandit courier was neutralized, and items seized included a motorcycle, two mobile phones, and an AK-47 magazine loaded with 20 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.
Military authorities say operations will continue until all criminal elements are flushed out of Kogi forests and normalcy is restored across affected communities.
