#Osun Monarch Attacked by Youths Over Imam Appointment in Disputed Community

Tension flared in the Hallelujah community, Egbedore Local Government Area of Osun State, on Friday as angry youths assaulted the Ajeniju of Hallelujah, Oba Jelili Olaiya. The incident stemmed from the monarch’s controversial appointment of an Imam in the disputed community.

Events Leading to the Attack

Oba Jelili Olaiya, installed by the Timi of Ede a few months ago despite opposition from the neighboring Ido-Osun community, reportedly faced backlash after appointing Ahmad Tijjani as Chief Imam of Hallelujah. The decision, viewed as overstepping boundaries, triggered outrage among youths loyal to the Ido-Osun monarch.

The monarch attempted to hold a Jumat prayer in his palace on Friday, but the event was disrupted by a mob of aggrieved youths. Accusing Oba Olaiya of lacking the authority to install an Imam or lead prayers in a domain they claim does not belong to him, the mob vandalized his palace and inflicted severe injuries on him.

Intervention and Aftermath

A security source revealed that law enforcement officers intervened to rescue the monarch, who was severely beaten during the altercation.

“The situation escalated, leading to the destruction of the palace and physical assault on the Ajeniju of Hallelujah. He sustained serious injuries and has been taken to the State CID for safety and further investigation,” the source stated.

The incident highlights ongoing tensions between the Hallelujah and Ido-Osun communities over territorial and traditional authority, raising concerns about broader security and unity in the area.
