Members of the National Association of Oduduwa Students, the Coalition of Yoruba Students, and the Yoruba Movement staged a peaceful protest in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, to support the Dangote Refinery amid its ongoing conflict with oil unions PENGASSAN, NUPENG, and the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria.
The protesters gathered at Iwo Road Roundabout, at the end of the Ibadan/Lagos expressway, chanting solidarity songs and marching through major routes. They carried placards with messages such as “Don’t Kill Dangote Refinery,” “#StopSabotagingFuelInNigeria,” “#EndPENGASSAN,” “#EndDAPPMAN,” and “#DangoteRefineryIsANationalAsset.”
Wearing shirts emblazoned with “Don’t Kill Dangote Refinery,” the students condemned what they described as a “coordinated attempt by vested interests” to undermine Nigeria’s largest industrial investment and Africa’s biggest single-train refinery.
Olalere Adetunji, President of the National Association of Oduduwa Students, urged President Bola Tinubu and relevant authorities to intervene to protect the refinery and ensure its operations support Nigeria’s goal of fuel self-sufficiency. Police and Federal Road Safety Corps personnel were present to maintain order during the protest.
