OGBOMOSO — Tragedy struck Soun High School in Oyo State as a teacher, Mr. Fatai Adegoke, died following a brutal attack by his own students while attempting to stop them from gambling during school hours.
Reports indicate that Mr. Adegoke confronted a group of students caught gambling in a classroom. In retaliation, the students reportedly assaulted him, inflicting severe injuries, including broken limbs. He was rushed to a hospital but later succumbed to the injuries.

“With deep sorrow and righteous indignation, we mourn the avoidable death of Mr. Fatai Adegoke, a committed teacher attacked while performing his duty,” a statement from concerned educators read. “This horrific act is an assault not only on one man but on the teaching profession as a whole.”
The statement urged the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), TESCOM, and law enforcement agencies to take swift action against the perpetrators, emphasizing that parents should also be held accountable.

Educators described the incident as a reflection of moral decay in schools and homes and called on authorities to restore safety and discipline within educational institutions.
Attempts to reach the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, for comment were unsuccessful. Meanwhile, the students involved are reportedly in hiding, heightening public outrage.

The incident has reignited demands for urgent measures to protect teachers and ensure classrooms remain safe environments for learning and discipline.
