The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) of Nigeria has praised the Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Kayode Egbetokun, the Police Management Team, and the FCT Commissioner of Police for their professional handling of the recent “Free Nnamdi Kanu” protest led by activist Omoyele Sowore in Abuja.
In a statement issued in Abuja by National Chairman Alhaji Ibrahim Olaniyan, the PCRC said the Police’s calm and lawful response during the protest demonstrated renewed professionalism, respect for human rights, and adherence to constitutional principles under the current Police leadership.
The Committee also lauded the prompt arraignment of arrested protesters within 24 hours, describing it as a testament to the Force’s commitment to due process and the rule of law. It urged the Police to continue diligent prosecution to discourage future lawlessness.
The PCRC further commended members of the Eastern community for their restraint and understanding, emphasizing that resolving the Nnamdi Kanu issue should come through legal and political channels, not confrontation.
Reaffirming its support for the Nigeria Police Force, the PCRC called on citizens to express grievances peacefully and through constitutional means to sustain national peace and security.
