Dr. Adetokunbo Pearse, a prominent figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has called for Senate President Godswill Akpabio to step down, citing unresolved corruption allegations from his time as governor. In a fiery interview on Arise News, Pearse argued that Akpabio’s position as head of Nigeria’s lawmaking body is untenable due to pending cases with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
“Akpabio shouldn’t be Senate President. He has criminal cases with the EFCC for stealing millions as governor,” Pearse said. “No court has convicted him, but the allegations are there. He should answer for them instead of holding such a high office.” He stressed that leaders with questionable integrity should not occupy top roles, insisting that public office demands unblemished character.
Pearse’s comments, made between the 10:30 and 10:50 mark of the interview, have stirred debate, with some questioning whether unproven allegations should disqualify Akpabio. The remarks reflect broader concerns about accountability in Nigerian leadership, as Pearse maintained that the mere existence of EFCC cases casts a shadow over Akpabio’s suitability to lead the Senate.
