The ratification followed a motion moved by Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan during the 2026 PDP National Convention held in Abuja. Delegates unanimously endorsed the motion, validating party structures across affected states and signalling a significant step in the party’s internal reorganisation.

The convention, which drew thousands of party stakeholders, comes after months of consultations, reconciliations, and dispute resolutions in some state chapters. The exercise is widely viewed as a move to consolidate leadership legitimacy and reinforce the PDP’s constitutional processes.

Speaking on the convention floor, Akpoti-Uduaghan emphasized unity, legality, and institutional stability. She described the ratification as essential for strengthening the party’s democratic framework:

“Today’s decision is not merely procedural; it is a reaffirmation of our collective commitment to internal democracy, party discipline, and respect for due process. The PDP remains a party governed by rules, consultations, and the will of its members at all levels,” she said.

The motion covered congresses conducted in several states, including Abia, Akwa Ibom, Benue, Cross River, Edo, Gombe, Imo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, Kwara, Kogi, Nasarawa, Ogun, Osun, Niger, Rivers, and the Federal Capital Territory.

Repeat congresses were also approved for Anambra, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Borno, Delta, Ebonyi, Ekiti, Enugu, Kano, Lagos, Ondo, Oyo, Plateau, Taraba, Yobe, and Zamfara.

The motion received overwhelming voice approval from delegates, reflecting broad consensus and renewed unity across the party. In her closing remarks, Akpoti-Uduaghan urged members to prioritize collective interest over personal ambitions, calling for trust-building, inclusivity, and positioning the PDP as a credible alternative for Nigerians.

“The task before us is bigger than any single person. Together, we must rebuild trust, deepen inclusion, and position the PDP as the credible alternative Nigerians are looking toward,” she said.
