At the convention held at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, the party announced a new 19-member National Working Committee (NWC), a move aimed at strengthening and repositioning the opposition party ahead of future elections. The structure of the committee aligns with the provisions of the party’s constitution, which outlines key leadership roles at the national level.

The newly selected officials emerged through a consensus arrangement and were endorsed by over 2,500 delegates. Among them is the new National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, alongside other key officers occupying positions such as secretary, treasurer, publicity secretary, legal adviser, youth leader, and women leader.

Despite the successful inauguration, the convention exposed internal divisions within the party. While delegates from states like Benue, Ekiti, Kebbi and others participated actively, some factions in states including Edo and Gombe boycotted the gathering, citing legal concerns and unresolved disputes.

In Sokoto State, disagreements deepened as a faction defied the boycott directive and attended the convention, highlighting ongoing tensions within the party’s structure. Similarly, differing positions emerged across various states, with some leaders aligning with the Wike-backed leadership while others remained opposed.

Prominent party figures, including Bukola Saraki and Sule Lamido, used the occasion to call for unity, reconciliation, and renewed commitment among members. They stressed the importance of resolving internal conflicts to strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Meanwhile, in Bauchi State, Governor Bala Mohammed has taken steps to address internal disputes by leading a newly formed committee tasked with resolving party conflicts and preparing for upcoming elections.

Party leaders at the convention emphasized that unity and inclusiveness remain critical to rebuilding trust and restoring the PDP as a strong political force. They urged members to set aside differences and focus on repositioning the party for future electoral success.
