Some members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) staged a peaceful protest at the United States Embassy in Abuja on Thursday, November 6, 2025.

The demonstrators called for international support to protect Nigeria’s democracy and prevent the country from becoming a one-party state. They also submitted protest letters to the US Embassy, the European Union complex, and the Ministry of Justice.
Carrying placards with messages like “Fix PDP, fix Nigeria” and “Save our democracy from intimidation,” the protesters accused the ruling party of targeting opposition members and undermining multi-party democracy.
The protest comes amid deepening internal crises within the PDP. Over the weekend, National Chairman Umar Damagum and his faction suspended several key officers, including National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu. In response, Anyanwu’s faction announced the suspension of Damagum and other party leaders, further intensifying the leadership dispute.

As the factions battle for control, acting National Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed, loyal to Anyanwu, resumed duties at the party’s headquarters on Monday, while Damagum’s group stayed away.
