PDP WINS GWAGWALADA CHAIRMANSHIP IN FCT POLLS AS APC SECURES AMAC

Mohammed Kasim of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has emerged winner of the Gwagwalada Area Council chairmanship election in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Kasim secured 22,165 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Yahaya Shehu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 17,788 votes. Biko Umar of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) finished third with 1,687 votes.

Following the announcement of results, Kasim was declared duly elected after meeting all legal requirements for the contest.

Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) recorded victory in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) chairmanship election, as the incumbent chairman, Christopher Maikalangu, was returned elected.

Maikalangu polled 40,295 votes to secure the highest number of votes cast in the election. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) came second with 12,109 votes, while the PDP placed third with 3,398 votes.

A total of 62,861 valid votes were recorded in the AMAC chairmanship poll, out of 65,197 votes cast. The council has 837,338 registered voters, with 65,676 voters accredited during the election.
