The Kaduna State Police Command said its officers arrested a suspected bandit in Kudaru Forest in Saminaka, Lere local government area in Kaduna, and recovered an AK-47 rifle.
The command’s public relations officer, ASP Mohammed Jalige, made this known in a statement on Saturday in Kaduna.
Jalige said officers on June 18 at around 7:45 a.m. while on a routine patrol along Kudaru Forest in Saminaka, Lere LGA of Kaduna State, intercepted a Volkswagen Golf vehicle, green with registration number KAG 142 AA, heading towards Kaduna.
He explained that the officers noticed the suspicious attitude of the occupants of the said vehicle and tried to signal them, but they immediately parked a distance away and rushed into the forest.
“The police however engaged them in a shootout and managed to apprehend a suspect and during the search of the vehicle an AK47 rifle was found concealed in order to escape the eagle eyes of the security forces along. the road.
He said the suspect is currently under full investigation and providing useful information to police as concerted efforts are underway to apprehend the fleeing gang members to face the full wrath of the law.
Jalige said state police commissioner CP Umar Muri assured members of the public that the command will do everything possible to ensure that gang members are dislodged and their operational weapons are recovered.
He also instructed the officers and men of the command to be vigilant at all times to effectively ensure the police in their areas of responsibility. (NAA)
