Police Arrest Three Suspected Kidnappers Following Adamawa Boarding Schools Closure

Less than 24 hours after the Adamawa State Government ordered the closure of boarding schools, police have arrested three men allegedly involved in kidnapping activities in the state.

In a statement on Sunday, Adamawa Police spokesperson SP Suleiman Nguroje said the arrests followed a complaint made on November 19, 2025, by a resident of a village in Song Local Government Area. The complainant reported receiving a threatening phone call the previous day from an unknown caller demanding N2 million, warning that failure to pay could result in abduction or death.

Following the complaint, the Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, directed the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Intelligence Department in Yola to investigate and apprehend the suspects.

The arrested individuals were identified as Ahmadu Alhaji Halilu, 24; Adamu Buba Balejo, 21; and Hassan Alhaji Liman, all residents of Malabu District in Fufore Local Government Area.

During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to the crime. Police also recovered a SIM card used in the plot, which will be treated as evidence.

The CP praised the officers involved in the operation and reiterated the command’s commitment to tracking, arresting, and prosecuting criminals across Adamawa State.

The arrests came a day after the Adamawa State Government closed all public and private boarding schools. In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Education and Human Development, Dr. Umar Pella, the closure was ordered by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri to prevent incidents similar to recent student abductions in Niger and Kebbi states.

The statement directed that all boarding schools temporarily operate as day schools. “Given the current security challenges, particularly the attacks targeting boarding schools, all principals and proprietors are instructed to deboard students and ensure day-school operations until further notice,” it read.
