Police Confirm Abduction of Kebbi Deputy Speaker, Launch Rescue Operation

The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Samaila Bagudu, by suspected armed bandits.

According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, the incident occurred on Friday, October 31, 2025, around 8:20 p.m. when the lawmaker was returning home in Bagudo town, Bagudo Local Government Area, after observing Isha’i prayers.

 

Abubakar said that armed men stormed the area and whisked away the Deputy Speaker before security reinforcements could arrive.

 

A joint search and rescue operation comprising police tactical units, military personnel, and local vigilantes has since been deployed to track down the assailants and rescue the lawmaker.

“The combined team is combing suspected bandits’ routes and surrounding forests to ensure the safe rescue of the victim and the arrest of those responsible,” Abubakar stated.

 

The Commissioner of Police condemned the incident, describing it as a “dastardly act that will not go unpunished.” He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.

The police also appealed to residents to remain calm and vigilant, and to provide credible information that could assist ongoing operations, assuring the public of continuous efforts to maintain peace and stability in Kebbi State.
