The Cross River State Police Command has confirmed an attack on St. Mary’s Catholic Church at Katchuan Iruan in Boki Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson ASP Sunday Eitokpah said the incident, believed to have been carried out by suspected arsonists, occurred around 3 a.m. on Thursday.
The attackers reportedly set fire to all church records stored in the sacristry and torched vehicles on the premises, including the priest’s Lexus 350 and a Toyota Corolla.
“No suspect has been identified at this time. Efforts are ongoing to determine those responsible,” Eitokpah said. He added that the scene has been secured, photographs taken, and the case referred to Okunde Police Station for further discreet investigation.
