An incident in the Ikorodu area on Saturday sparked outrage after a viral video showed a police officer restraining a bus conductor during an attempted arrest. The footage drew criticism because the conductor appeared half-naked while the officer used force on him.

Police Public Relations Officer Abimbola Adebisi confirmed on Sunday that the matter is under investigation. According to the statement, the bus driver had deliberately obstructed traffic, causing a gridlock and hardship for road users in Ikorodu. The police said the conductor stripped himself while trying to evade arrest, which was the moment captured in the viral video.
The statement added that the officer involved has been identified and placed under investigation to assess whether his actions were appropriate. The conductor has also been contacted and is expected to appear before the Commissioner of Police on Monday. The bus has been impounded for further inquiries.

Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh urged residents to remain law-abiding and to report any violation of their rights by security personnel. The Command also cautioned against “unnecessary dramatisation” of the incident and reminded the public that resisting lawful arrest is a criminal offence.
The police promised a transparent review of the incident and said the outcome of the investigation will be made public.
