Police Warned to Stop Extortions and Harassment of Youths 26 September 2025

At a strategic meeting with Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and Tactical Commanders, Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Olohundare Jimoh, issued a stern warning against all forms of extortion, harassment, violation of human rights and the unprofessional practice of name-calling, particularly at youths. He reminded all officers and men of their obligations to uphold the rights and dignity of every citizen,as crime prevention must be done with a human face.

He particularly cautioned police officers against inflicting unnecessary hardship on the youths through the practice of checking their phones, a procedure which has been banned. Such act he emphasized can only be carried out if the devices involved are exhibits in established cases under investigation and within the police station, in accordance with the law.

CP Jimoh highlighted significant successes such as the arrest of Samsideen Oladiti a.k.a. Shameleon, in connection with two violent crimes;

Jude Onouha, leader of a notorious vehicle vandal who disguised as security personnel to gain access into estates; John Samuel, an ex-convict, armed robber, and hired assassin, arrested in connection with armed robbery and attempted murder. He noted that these successes reflect the ongoing commitment of the Command to rid Lagos state of criminal elements.

He urged residents to continue to assist and cooperate with the police in by providing credible information in their localities at all times.
