Princess Kate teams up for rare engagement with Melania Trump

The Princess of Wales was joined by the First Lady for an important engagement.

Windsor played host to an extraordinary sight on Thursday morning as Princess Kate, the Princess of Wales, teamed up with US First Lady Melania Trump for a joint engagement with the Scouts.

The pair arrived at Frogmore Gardens to take part in activities with members of the Squirrels programme — the youngest section of the Scouts, in what many described as a rare and symbolic partnership.

Princess Kate, 43, brought her signature elegance with a countryside-inspired look: a forest-green suede cropped jacket from Me+Em paired with a flowing brown skirt, silk necktie, and knee-high boots. Melania, ever the polished figure, complemented her style as the two women walked side by side, greeting young Scouts with warm smiles.

They were welcomed by Chief Scout Dwayne Fields, who guided them through a series of activities. The children; eager and wide-eyed, worked toward their “Go Wild” badge, with the royal and the First Lady rolling up their sleeves to help. Together, they built a bug hotel and experimented with leaf printing, gathering autumn leaves scattered across the gardens.

But the day was not just about fun, it was about connection. Both Kate and Melania share a deep commitment to children’s wellbeing and to the importance of time spent in nature. For the Princess, who has been joint President of the Scouts since 2020, the engagement echoed her long-standing passion for encouraging young people to build resilience, empathy, and confidence outdoors.

As the activities wound down, the Princess and the First Lady joined the children for a special badge presentation, celebrating their achievements before settling down for a garden picnic. In a thoughtful gesture, Princess Kate arranged packed lunches featuring sandwiches made with honey from her family’s hives at Anmer Hall. Melania added her own symbolic gift: jars of honey from the White House, ensuring each child left with a sweet memory of the day.

This wasn’t Kate’s first time highlighting the transformative power of the outdoors. Earlier this year, she joined Scouts at Lake Windermere in the Lake District, reflecting on how time in nature helps her find peace and balance in an often chaotic world.

“Not everyone has that same relationship with nature,” she said at the time, “but for me, it is meaningful as a place to reconnect, to find peace, and to feel grounded in what is otherwise a very busy life.”

Thursday’s Windsor engagement carried the same spirit, two global figures, two jars of honey, and a powerful reminder that the smallest acts, like building bug hotels or sharing sandwiches, can plant seeds of belonging and hope in young lives.
