Pro-Tinubu Group Warns Jonathan Against 2027 Presidential Bid, Predicts Embarrassment

The Progressive Network for Tinubu in Ondo State, a group of supporters of President Bola Tinubu, has cautioned former President Goodluck Jonathan against contesting the 2027 presidential election, warning that such a move would lead to “embarrassment.” The group, speaking during the inauguration of its local government structures across Ondo State’s 18 local government areas on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, dismissed speculation that Jonathan is preparing to run under an undisclosed political party.

Director-General Olumide Obadele asserted that Tinubu faces no significant opposition for 2027, describing opposition parties like the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as “on life support.” He argued that any candidate, including Jonathan, running on their platforms would be unable to defeat Tinubu. Obadele also refuted claims that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is concerned about Jonathan’s rumored ambition, citing constitutional and legal barriers that make his candidacy nearly impossible.

The warning comes amid a lawsuit filed on Monday by legal practitioner Johnmary Jideobi at the Federal High Court in Abuja, seeking to perpetually bar Jonathan from contesting in 2027. Obadele urged Jonathan to preserve his reputation as a statesman and avoid a race that could tarnish his legacy. “If he insists, he will only end up embarrassed and rubbished,” he stated.
