On October 17, 2025, hundreds of demonstrators, led by the Take It Back Movement and various civil society groups, marched from Ikeja Bridge to the Lagos State Secretariat in Alausa to protest escalating hunger and ongoing demolitions in Oworonshoki.
The protesters, who gathered as early as 7:30 a.m. and began marching by 10:00 a.m., carried placards with messages like “Stop the Demolitions,” “End Hunger Now,” and “Government Should Protect the Poor,” condemning the state’s “anti-poor policies.”
They criticized the demolitions for rendering residents homeless without adequate notice or alternative housing, exacerbating economic hardship for low-income families. Security forces, including police and Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps, were deployed along major routes to maintain order.
By the time of reporting, the protesters had reached the Secretariat, chanting solidarity songs and demanding a meeting with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu or his representative to address their grievances.
