Qatar imposes strict visa rules on Nigerians, bans men from travelling without their families

Qatar has introduced new, stricter visa regulations for Nigerians, citing rising cases of overstays and immigration violations.

According to a notice circulated by TravelTank, an online travel agency, the country’s Interior Ministry announced that the rules take immediate effect and cover both tourist and transit visas, including applications already in process.

Under the new policy, Nigerian men can no longer obtain tourist or transit visas unless accompanied by their families. Only women and family groups are permitted to apply independently.

In addition, applicants must book accommodation exclusively in five-star hotels and provide proof of a confirmed return transfer alongside their hotel reservations before visa processing.

Qatar explained that the measures are intended to prevent abuse of its immigration system and strengthen compliance with international travel standards.

The policy is expected to significantly affect Nigerians planning trips to Qatar for tourism, business, or transit. The Nigerian government has yet to respond to the development
