Former Big Brother Naija housemate Tuoyo has called out Rita Daniels, mother of Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, accusing her of poor parenting for permitting her daughter to marry at a young age.
Taking to his Instagram story, Tuoyo lamented the decline of responsible parenting in modern times. He argued that many parents have become too detached from their children’s lives, allowing them to make major life decisions without adequate guidance or supervision.
According to Tuoyo, Regina Daniels’ marriage at 17 or 18 to businessman and politician Senator Ned Nwoko serves as a prime example of parental failure. He contrasted today’s parenting with that of previous generations, emphasizing that parents once maintained strict oversight of their children’s activities and whereabouts.
“Nowadays, parents mess us up a lot. How can your child travel to another country for like three weeks and you don’t even know? What exactly is your job?” Tuoyo wrote. “Back in the day, our parents knew where we were and when we were coming home. For instance, imagine Regina’s mum letting her go with a man at 17 or 18 — a child who didn’t know anything. Parents need to do better.”
Tuoyo’s remarks come amid renewed public discussions surrounding Regina Daniels’ marriage to Senator Nwoko, which has faced various allegations of domestic strife and emotional distress. The controversy has reignited debates about the responsibilities of parents, the protection of minors, and the societal pressures that influence young women’s life choices.
His comments have since sparked mixed reactions online, with many Nigerians sharing divided opinions on whether parents should be blamed for the choices their children make in adulthood, especially when fame and wealth are involved.
