While the directive promotes accountability, real reform requires addressing poor welfare, lack of manpower, and obsolete equipment. Nigeria’s police are overstretched and under-armed, facing rising insecurity with minimal support. Government must recruit more officers, provide modern weapons, and fund proper facilities.
Every suspect should undergo medical screening — heart, hypertension, or liver conditions can cause deaths wrongly blamed on police. Protecting lives includes protecting those who enforce the law. Reform must come with resources, not rhetoric.
