Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has been honoured with the prestigious traditional title of Sarauniyar Yaki (Warrior Queen) of Akko Emirate in Gombe State.
The Lamido Akko, Alhaji Umar Muhammad Atiku, conferred the title on Thursday in recognition of her unwavering commitment to defending the vulnerable and advancing the welfare of women and children across the country.
The conferment took place during Mrs. Tinubu’s two-day working visit to Gombe, where she is also expected to launch the Renewed Hope Initiative’s Flow With Confidence programme — a landmark intervention that will provide disposable sanitary pads to schoolgirls, promoting menstrual hygiene and reducing absenteeism.
Expressing her gratitude, the First Lady described the honour as “both inspiring and humbling,” pledging to scale up her interventions for the girl-child, particularly in education and health. She also urged traditional rulers to support her advocacy and help extend her initiatives to the grassroots.
The ceremony was attended by Gombe State Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, the Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, Hon. Usman Bello Kumo, and several dignitaries.
This latest recognition adds to the growing list of traditional titles bestowed upon Mrs. Tinubu since 2023. In June, she was honoured as Ugosimba I of Enugu (“Jewel of Empowerment”) by traditional rulers in Enugu State, and in August, she received the title of Iya Oba of Ikorodu from Oba Kabir Shotobi of Ikorodu, Lagos State.
