RETIRED NIGERIAN SOLDIER KILLED, SEVERAL ABDUCTED IN ATTACK ON BORNO COMMUNITY

Residents of Kubuku community in Kwaya Kusar Local Government Area of Borno State have reported a deadly attack in which a retired military officer was killed and several other people abducted.

Local sources said the incident occurred on Friday in Kubuku, a rural settlement located a few minutes’ drive from Peze.

A resident of the area said the attack left the community in shock.

“There was another attack a few minutes’ drive from Peze, at Kubuku, where a retired military officer was killed. Some other persons were also kidnapped,” the resident said.

Kubuku lies southwest of Biu and is close to the villages of Zalfu and Hyama within Nigeria’s North-East region.

As of the time of reporting, authorities had yet to confirm the identities of those abducted, the exact number of victims, or the group responsible for the attack.

The incident has raised further concerns about insecurity in rural communities across northeastern Nigeria, where residents continue to face threats from armed groups and bandits.

The latest attack comes amid ongoing security challenges in the state. Recently, Nigerian Army personnel who were killed during clashes with terrorists were laid to rest at the Maimalari Military Cantonment Cemetery in Maiduguri.

During the burial ceremony, the Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, Abdulsalam Abubakar, described the occasion as a painful reminder of the sacrifices made by members of the armed forces.

“In the profession of arms, there are moments of victory that fill us with pride and affirm the strength, courage and unity that define our service,” he said.

“Yet there are also solemn moments that weigh heavily on our hearts and remind us of the true cost of service.”

He praised the fallen soldiers for their courage and dedication, noting that they gave their lives in service to the nation.

“They were brave, loyal and courageous patriots whose sacrifices will never be forgotten,” he added.

Abubakar also assured the families of the deceased soldiers that the military would ensure all benefits and entitlements due to them are processed to support their loved ones.

Meanwhile, Babagana Umara Zulum, represented at the ceremony by Mustapha Ali Yabe of the Borno State Security Trust Fund, expressed condolences to the military and families of the fallen troops.

The governor described their deaths as a painful loss and commended the dedication of security forces working to protect the state. He also pledged continued support from the Borno State Government to both the military and families of fallen soldiers.
