On October 13, 2025, the Rivers State Police Command arrested 46-year-old Abi Baragon, a father of four, for allegedly assaulting a woman in Port Harcourt after she rejected his marriage proposal. The incident, which occurred at Nkpolu-Oroworukwo, Mile 3, gained attention through a viral video posted on June 20, 2025, showing the victim’s distress after the attack.
According to police spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko, operatives from the Human Rights Department used intelligence-led policing and technical tracking to apprehend Baragon. He initially denied the allegations but later confessed to using bottles and stabbing the victim, motivated by her discovery of his existing marriage and children. The victim is receiving hospital treatment, and a thorough investigation is underway.
Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju praised the operatives and public cooperation, emphasizing the command’s commitment to justice. He warned that criminals cannot evade arrest and confirmed Baragon will face prosecution upon completion of the investigation.
