The development forms part of Moscow’s broader foreign policy drive to strengthen relations with African countries amid rising tensions with Western powers, particularly the United States and the European Union.

Russian authorities reportedly aim to establish diplomatic representation in almost all African nations, with only a few remaining countries yet to host Russian embassies after the latest expansion.

The move comes against the backdrop of ongoing sanctions imposed by the United States and the European Union over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which has pushed Moscow to deepen its political, economic, and strategic partnerships with countries in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East.

As global alignments continue to shift, Russia’s growing diplomatic footprint in Africa reflects its effort to secure new alliances and reduce reliance on Western engagement.
