The Lagos State Government has announced a 30% reduction in fares for the Red Line train service, lowering costs from ₦1,500 to ₦1,000. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu made this known on Tuesday while commissioning the newly completed Abule Egba Bus Terminal, a major addition to the state’s modern transportation network.
Strategically located near the Lagos Red Line corridor, the new terminal is designed to enhance seamless commuting by providing a well-structured hub for passengers to board and connect to various transportation modes across the city.
Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to upgrading the state’s transport infrastructure, saying:
“Six years ago, we pledged to modernize Lagos’ public transport system with sustainable infrastructure to improve connectivity. Today, we fulfill that promise with the Abule Egba Bus Terminal, which will facilitate smooth transit across the metropolis.”
He also revealed that Lagos would take delivery of new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and electric buses by the third quarter of the year to further enhance intra-city transportation, reduce waiting times at bus stops, and promote environmental sustainability.
The governor urged residents to take ownership of the new facility, emphasizing that public infrastructure is made possible through taxpayers’ contributions.
Lagos Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, noted that the state’s transportation policy prioritizes modern, safe, and inclusive mobility options for all residents. Similarly, the Managing Director of LAMATA, Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo, highlighted that strategic infrastructure remains the backbone of an efficient transport system.
The Abule Egba Bus Terminal features loading bays, a waiting area, commercial spaces, customer service offices, public conveniences, and provisions for green energy. It joins an expanding list of modern terminals in Lagos, including those in Ikeja, Oshodi, Ajah, Oyingbo, Yaba, Ojota, and Ifako-Ijaiye, with Iyana Ipaja set to follow soon.
