Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has lauded Flutterwave and its founders, highlighting the crucial roles of opportunity, resilience, and innovation in driving Nigeria’s economic growth.
Speaking at the fintech company’s 10th-anniversary inaugural gala held at the luxury venue The Delborough Lagos during the week, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the importance of creating opportunities for young Nigerians to achieve global excellence.

Recalling Nigeria’s telecommunications evolution, the governor noted the difficulties of earlier decades when international calls were cumbersome and expensive. He also praised the leadership of former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo and former Sierra Leone President Ernest Bai Koroma for laying foundations that enabled the country’s economic and technological progress.
Sanwo-Olu commended Flutterwave founder and Chief Executive Officer, Olugbenga Agboola (GB), for transforming payment infrastructure in Nigeria and building a platform that has processed over $50 billion in transactions in just ten years.

“We must give young Nigerians the opportunity to fly,” he said, urging the nation to harness talent and support innovative ventures that can position Nigeria as a global leader.
The governor also recognized other key figures in technology and finance, including Dr. Cosmas Maduka, and reaffirmed Lagos’ readiness to host businesses that promote growth and international partnerships. He concluded by calling for sustained investment in infrastructure and education to ensure Nigeria’s youth can fully realize their potential and contribute meaningfully to national development.

The gala attracted prominent guests, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo (GCON) of Nigeria; former President Ernest Bai Koroma of Sierra Leone; and the Founder of Coscharis Group, Dr. Cosmas Maduka. Other notable attendees were Ernest Ndukwe, Chairman of MTN Nigeria’s Board of Directors, and Dr. Stanley Uzochukwu, Founder and CEO of Stanel Group and The Delborough Lagos.

Entertainment personalities also graced the occasion, including singer Tiwa Savage, former Big Brother Naija housemates Dorathy and Erica, and actress Omotola Jalade, alongside other distinguished figures from diverse sectors.
