Saraki urges postponement of PDP convention

Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has urged the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to suspend its planned National Convention scheduled for November 15–16 in Ibadan, citing conflicting court orders and internal divisions.

In a post on his X handle after meeting with the PDP Board of Trustees (BOT) Reconciliation Team led by Ambassador Hassan Adamu, Saraki said proceeding with the convention would deepen the crisis and endanger the party’s future.

He noted that political issues should be resolved through dialogue, not the courts, adding that the conflicting judgments over the convention’s legality had created uncertainty about its validity.

“As it stands, there are conflicting court orders on the convention. There’s no assurance its outcome will stand,” he said.

Saraki called for the immediate formation of a Caretaker Committee to manage the party temporarily and rebuild trust, stressing that this would be the “path to true reconciliation and stability.”

The PDP has been thrown into confusion after multiple court rulings either halted or permitted the convention. While one camp loyal to acting National Chairman Iliya Damagum insists it will proceed, another linked to Nyesom Wike has warned members to stay away.

Despite the controversy, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, says the convention will hold as planned, blaming the ruling APC for trying to destabilize the PDP.Headline news
