#Saudi Arabia Temporarily Suspends Umrah, Visit, and Business Visas for 14 Countries Ahead of Hajj 2025

Saudi Arabia has announced a temporary suspension of Umrah, business, and family visit visas for nationals from 14 countries, including India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. The ban, which takes effect from April 13, 2025, is part of the Kingdom’s efforts to manage crowd control and enhance safety during the upcoming Hajj pilgrimage.

Purpose of the Visa Ban

The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah stated that the suspension is aimed at curbing the influx of unregistered pilgrims who often attempt to perform Hajj through unofficial channels. Authorities are seeking to prevent a repeat of the 2024 Hajj tragedy, where over 1,000 unregistered pilgrims reportedly lost their lives due to overcrowding and lack of access to official services.

By halting the issuance of key visa types, the Kingdom aims to ensure that only properly registered pilgrims participate in the 2025 Hajj, enhancing crowd management and security measures.

Affected Visa Categories

The temporary visa suspension applies to:

  • Umrah Visas – for those intending to perform the lesser pilgrimage
  • Business Visit Visas – for short-term commercial travel
  • Family Visit Visas – for visiting relatives residing in Saudi Arabia

In addition, multiple-entry visas for citizens of the affected countries have also been suspended. Since February 1, 2025, only single-entry visas are being issued to prevent misuse during the Hajj season.

Confirmed Countries on the Visa Ban List

As of now, 13 countries have been officially confirmed under the suspension:

  1. India
  2. Pakistan
  3. Bangladesh
  4. Egypt
  5. Indonesia
  6. Iraq
  7. Nigeria
  8. Jordan
  9. Algeria
  10. Sudan
  11. Ethiopia
  12. Tunisia
  13. Yemen

A 14th country, possibly Morocco, is speculated to be included, though not yet confirmed by Saudi authorities.

Visa Suspension Timeline

  • April 13, 2025: Final day to obtain Umrah or visit visas for nationals of the listed countries.
  • Mid-June 2025: Expected end of the ban, after the conclusion of Hajj 2025.

Travellers from the affected countries are advised to avoid planning non-Hajj-related travel to Saudi Arabia during this period unless they are part of officially sanctioned Hajj delegations.

Implications for Travellers and Pilgrimage Operators

The ban is expected to impact:

  • Thousands planning Umrah during Ramadan
  • Families hoping to reunite for Eid celebrations
  • Travel agencies and religious tour operators offering pilgrimage packages

Saudi authorities have strongly urged prospective pilgrims to register through official Hajj programs to avoid legal consequences and ensure access to proper services.

Travel Advisory: What You Should Do

  1. Consult Official Channels: Always verify visa updates through the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs or your local Saudi embassy/consulate.
  2. Follow Official Hajj Registration: If planning to perform Hajj, go through your country’s authorized Hajj program.
  3. Postpone Non-Essential Visits: If your travel is not urgent, consider scheduling your trip after mid-June 2025, when the ban is likely to be lifted.

While the suspension may disrupt travel plans for many, the Saudi government emphasizes that these temporary measures are essential for maintaining the sanctity, safety, and orderliness of the Hajj pilgrimage.
