SDP Expels National Chairman Gabam, Others Over Misconduct

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has expelled its former National Chairman, Shehu Gabam, and several top officials, including National Youth Leader Ogbonna Chukwuma Uchechukwu, for alleged misconduct, financial misappropriation, and abuse of office. The decision, announced on Thursday in Abuja, followed a National Working Committee (NWC) meeting that adopted the findings of the party’s Disciplinary Committee and a subsequent White Paper.

National Publicity Secretary Rufus Aiyenigba stated that the expulsions resulted from months of investigation. The NWC had suspended Gabam, Uchechukwu, and National Auditor Clarkson Nnadi on June 24, 2025, for misconduct and financial impropriety. An independent Disciplinary Committee, formed on July 4, submitted its report on July 18, which the NWC reviewed and adopted on August 15.

Other expelled members include Adamu Abubakar Modibbo, Abubakar Dogara, Nuraddeen Bisalla, Solsuema Osaro, Ambo Ekpeyong, Eluwa Ifeanyi Henry, Humphrey Unwukaeze, and Judith Israel Shuaibu, accused of disloyalty and unauthorized entry into the party’s secretariat on July 28, where they were apprehended with sensitive documents and valuables. They face criminal prosecution.

The measures aim to restore integrity and discipline within the SDP, with additional administrative recommendations to prevent future breaches, effective immediately.
