A former Senator representing Zamfara Central, Kabiru Marafa, has officially defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing alleged political manipulation within the All Progressives Congress (APC).

His defection comes at a time when the ADC is already facing internal leadership disputes and recognition challenges following a Court of Appeal judgment that led the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw recognition from certain factional party structures.

Marafa had earlier left the APC in August 2025, accusing President Bola Tinubu’s administration of sidelining Zamfara State despite its electoral support during the presidential election.
In a statement released on Thursday through his media team, he confirmed his decision to join the ADC after what he described as extensive consultations with political allies and supporters. He added that his entire political structure has also moved with him into the new party.

He urged residents of Zamfara State to join and support the ADC, describing it as a platform for political reform, accountability, and improved governance.
The former senator also alleged internal manipulation within the APC, including concerns over the use of sensitive identity data for political registration purposes, which he said influenced his resignation.

He further noted that formal steps would be completed to remove his name from the APC membership register, followed by a public mobilisation event for ADC supporters in Gusau, Zamfara State.
