Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central has vowed to expose the leadership style of Senate President Godswill Akpabio following her referral to the Senate’s Ethics and Disciplinary Committee.
Her referral stems from a heated confrontation with Akpabio over a seating arrangement dispute. In response, Akpoti-Uduaghan declared her readiness to appear before the committee but insisted the proceedings must be public and live-streamed.
Taking to Instagram, she called for transparency, inviting media outlets like Arise News for an open discussion.
“Inasmuch as I have refrained from publicly speaking on the matter and many occurrences in the Senate under Akpabio, it’s time to break my silence,” she wrote.
Meanwhile, a petition against Akpoti-Uduaghan was filed by the Northern Youths Advocacy for Excellence, accusing her of corruption, abuse of power, and mistreatment of staff within the Senate Committee on Local Content, which she chairs.
The petition urged the Senate to investigate her alleged misconduct and take disciplinary action. However, Akpoti-Uduaghan maintains her innocence and insists on full transparency in addressing the allegations.
The conflict began when the senator challenged Akpabio over the relocation of her seat in the chamber. The confrontation escalated, leading Akpabio to order Senate security to remove her, though intervention by other lawmakers prevented her eviction.
The Senate’s spokesperson, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, later criticized Akpoti-Uduaghan’s conduct, stating that the Senate “is not for entertainment.”
In retaliation, the Kogi senator has now filed a N100.3 billion defamation lawsuit against Akpabio and others.
