In both meetings, Shettima delivered President Tinubu’s positions on global governance reforms, Africa’s security priorities, and the continent’s role in the world economy.

At the AU–EU Summit, he reiterated Nigeria’s call for Africa to obtain permanent, veto-wielding seats on the UN Security Council, stressing that global governance structures need urgent reform. He also urged stronger EU–Africa cooperation on peace and security, built on African-led solutions.

The Vice President reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to promoting peace, security, and democratic governance across the continent while working with the EU to build a more stable and prosperous world.

During the G20 Summit, Shettima pushed for a fairer global financial system, warning that current multilateral institutions no longer reflect today’s realities. He called for balanced solutions to global debt challenges and insisted that African communities hosting critical minerals must benefit through value addition at home. He also supported the creation of global ethical standards for Artificial Intelligence.

His return marks the end of a week of active Nigerian participation in global discussions on economic reform, security, and technology.Headline news
