Six Die in Katsina Bandit Attack

At least six people have been confirmed dead and two others abducted following a deadly attack by bandits on Jargaba community in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The assault occurred late Thursday when heavily armed bandits invaded the village and stormed a public relaxation spot where men typically gather to socialise. According to eyewitnesses, the attackers opened fire indiscriminately on six men at the venue, killing them on the spot.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Katsina State Police Command, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, said in a phone interview on Friday that two victims died at the scene, while four others who sustained gunshot wounds later succumbed to their injuries.

Yes, bandits attacked the community and shot people. Two died on the spot while four others who were injured yesterday also passed away today, bringing the total number of deaths to six. However, I’m not yet certain about the reported abductions; I’ll contact the Divisional Police Officer for confirmation,” DSP Sadiq stated.

Reports also indicated that two children sustained injuries during the attack, allegedly from stray bullets. The attackers reportedly encountered little or no resistance from local or official security forces during their operation.

Reacting to the tragedy, Hon. Abdulrahman Ahmed, who represents the area in the Katsina State House of Assembly, expressed deep sorrow over the attack and the worsening insecurity in the region.

“In the early hours of today, I received several distress calls from residents of Jargaba village reporting a bandit attack. The assailants reportedly headed straight to a common resting spot where villagers gather to relax. Among those present was a member of the local Community Watch Corps. Without warning, the bandits opened fire, killing all six, including an assistant to the CWC commandant,” he said.

He further disclosed that two children were also reported dead, while two individuals were believed to have been abducted from a nearby residence.

“May Allah forgive the victims’ shortcomings and grant them eternal rest. My condolences go to the people of Jargaba, Bakori LGA, and His Excellency, the Governor of Katsina State. I’ve already reached out to the relevant security agencies to ensure a swift response and long-term support for the community,” he added.

Bakori LGA has been one of the flashpoints of banditry, kidnapping, and cattle rustling in recent times.
