Sokoto Govt Approves Monthly Allowances for Imams, Deputies, and Mu’azzins

The Sokoto State Government has rolled out monthly allowances for Imams, their deputies, and Mu’azzins across the state, alongside fresh allocations to Jumu’at Mosques, in a move aimed at strengthening Islamic propagation and Qur’anic education.

The announcement was made by Governor Ahmed Aliyu on Saturday during the graduation of 111 Qur’an memorisers from the Sokoto branch of the Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi Foundation.

Aliyu said the new allowances were designed to support clerics in discharging their responsibilities effectively while safeguarding the continued growth of Islamic teachings in the state.

“In addition, monthly allowances have been introduced for Imams, their deputies, and Mu’azzins across the state to support them in the discharge of their duties,” he stated.

The governor emphasized that Islamic affairs rank second only to security in his administration’s Nine-point Smart Agenda, stressing that Qur’anic memorisation would help raise a generation committed to the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

He also directed the school management to secure land for a permanent site, assuring government support for its development.

The ceremony drew dignitaries including the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, who commended Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi for the foundation’s impact, and former Sokoto governor, Aliyu Wamakko, represented by Aminu Sufi, who urged parents to encourage Qur’anic learning.

Senator Abdulaziz Yari, represented by Lawal Liman, pledged continued backing for the foundation, announcing a donation of N22 million and food items to the graduands and the school.

Each of the 111 Qur’an memorisers received N20,000 and clothing materials from the state government, with the event concluding in Qur’anic recitations and prize presentations.
