SOLUDO SWORN IN FOR SECOND TERM

Governor Chukwuma Soludo has been sworn in for a second term in office at a ceremony held on Tuesday at the newly renovated Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka, the Anambra State capital.

He took the oath of office alongside his deputy, Dr Onyeka Ibezim, in the presence of top dignitaries from across the country.

Among those in attendance were Vice President Kashim Shettima, former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, as well as former Commonwealth Secretary-General Emeka Anyaoku. Also present were Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and several other governors.

Soludo’s re-election followed his victory in the November 8, 2025 governorship election, where he emerged winner after polling 422,664 votes. He defeated the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Nicholas Ukachukwu, who secured 99,445 votes, while the Young Progressives Party candidate, Sir Paul Chukwuma, came third with 37,753 votes.

According to the Independent National Electoral Commission, 16 candidates contested the election. Out of over 2.7 million registered voters, about 598,000 were accredited, with more than 595,000 votes cast and over 11,000 rejected across the state’s 21 local government areas.

Soludo, who ran under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, recorded a sweeping victory by winning in all 21 local government areas of the state.
