Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former Edo State governor, has announced that ADC leaders in the South-South have endorsed the presidential ambition of Rotimi Amaechi, former Governor of Rivers State.

Odigie-Oyegun made the disclosure during a consultative meeting of ADC South-South leaders in Benin City, noting that Amaechi formally informed regional leaders of his intention to contest the 2027 presidency. He added that a unanimous decision was taken to give Amaechi full support in his campaign.

Amaechi has stated that he would support whoever emerges as the party’s candidate and emphasized that the South should complete its eight-year tenure before power returns to the North.

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the 2027 Presidential and National Assembly elections for Saturday, January 16, 2027, with governorship and State House of Assembly elections to follow on Saturday, February 6, 2027.
