Nigerian activist Omoyele Sowore, leader of the #RevolutionNow movement, has formally petitioned Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier, accusing Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike of laundering embezzled public funds to acquire multi-billion naira properties in the United States.
Sowore claims that at least three Winter Springs, Florida, properties, registered under Wike’s wife, Justice Eberechi Suzzette Nyesom-Wike of Nigeria’s Court of Appeal, were purchased with illicit funds. He alleges these assets were distributed among Wike’s children to mask their origins. Sowore described the transactions as “first-class felonies” involving the trafficking of stolen wealth into the U.S. real estate market, violating both Nigerian and U.S. anti-corruption laws.
Investigations are ongoing, with Sowore hinting at more properties yet to be uncovered. He has long accused Wike, a former Rivers State governor, of corruption, while Wike has dismissed such claims as baseless. Recently, Wike criticized Sowore for attacking President Bola Tinubu, suggesting he was fortunate to face no repercussions. Sowore retorted that Wike should face charges at the International Criminal Court.
Despite repeated arrests for his anti-corruption campaigns, Sowore remains outspoken, vowing to expose Nigeria’s “systemic looting.” Wike has not yet responded to the latest allegations, which intensify international scrutiny on his financial dealings.
