The Osun State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus in the House of Representatives has issued a stern warning to Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, urging him to “refrain from meddling in Osun State affairs.”
The caucus condemned what it termed illegal governorship primaries held on Tuesday, which reportedly produced Adebayo Adedamola as the PDP’s governorship candidate for 2026.

In a statement released on Wednesday and signed by six caucus members—Bamidele Salam, Mudashiru Alani, Akanni Ademola, Adewale Adebayo, Adetunji Olusoji, and Oladebo Omoleye—the lawmakers accused Makinde of actions “capable of undermining political stability in Osun State.”
The caucus described the primaries as “orchestrated with thugs and political jobbers allegedly brought in from Ibadan, Oyo State,” portraying the Oyo governor as “a desperate figure seeking regional political influence through untoward conduct.”

They stated, “It is absurd that the Oyo State governor ignores, or pretends not to understand, that PDP procedures for primaries require the election of ward ad-hoc delegates and national delegates. Without these steps, no legitimate primary can occur.”
The caucus further warned that anyone claiming to be the PDP governorship candidate would be committing “criminal impersonation” and attempting to provoke the lawful and peaceful leaders and members of Osun PDP.
Criticising Makinde, the lawmakers said he had “exported impunity and recklessness to Osun State,” despite the state already having a sitting governor who “engages all stakeholders in key decisions.”

They affirmed their commitment to upholding the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and stressed that any aspirant for the 2026 Osun governorship must “follow due process.” The caucus also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to disregard the purported primary results and align with the PDP’s constitution and guidelines.

The crisis traces back to a national-level leadership dispute within the PDP. Rival factions, including one associated with Governor Makinde (led by Kabiru Turaki) and another loyal to Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, have disrupted the party’s normal functioning. This internal conflict has led to suspensions and counter-suspensions of key national officers responsible for organising primaries and submitting candidate lists to INEC, preventing state chapters like Osun from conducting legitimate primaries.

On November 4, 2025, Governor Adeleke resigned from the PDP, citing the ongoing national leadership crisis as his reason.
