‘Stop using old images’: Nigerian Army warns as it releases official portrait of Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu

The Nigerian Army has released the official portrait of the 25th Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, while warning the media and public to stop using outdated images.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Army said the move aims to ensure uniformity and accuracy in publications featuring the Chief of Army Staff.

“You are kindly requested to update your media archives and refrain from using previous photographs, particularly those showing the Chief of Army Staff with the rank of Major General,” the statement read.

The Army clarified that the earlier portrait released before Shaibu’s promotion should no longer be used, urging journalists and organisations to adopt the new official image in all publications.

It also commended media professionals for their continued support and responsible reporting, noting that accurate representation contributes to the country’s national security efforts.

Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu was appointed by President Bola Tinubu last month as the 25th Chief of Army Staff following a major restructuring within the military.

The release of the official portrait formalises his new position and provides an updated visual reference for Nigeria’s top army officer.
