#Tales of a Taiwo — Series I: The Heart of Isale Eko by Tayo Ajayi aka Popoyeh!

In the heart of Lagos Island, where colonial history meets modern hustle, a new era is on the horizon. Hon. Prince Taiwo Ajibade Oyekan, grandson of the Late Oba Adeyinka Oyekan and the first child of the late King’s first son, rises with a vision—not merely to serve, but to uplift.

He isn’t just royalty. He is a man shaped by the vibrant spirit of Isale Eko. Born into the Oyekan royal family, Prince Taiwo grew up surrounded by tradition, yet always looks forward.

From an early age, he has had a pulse on the people’s needs—a trait that would become the hallmark of his political journey.
As a two-term councillor and Deputy Leader of the Lagos Island Legislative Arm, he spearheaded numerous community initiatives.

It was during this time that Prince Taiwo organized free holiday lessons for students to curb idle time and boost academic performance.

He distributed cash support to struggling artisans and traders, provided food items to indigent families, and purchased operational buses for the Nigerian Police and local vigilante group, Folumo, to improve community security.

But his story doesn’t start in council chambers—it starts with service.
Before contesting as councillor, Prince Taiwo served as a Special Assistant on Environment, and later, a Senior Special Assistant. In those roles, he tackled issues of sanitation, environmental sustainability, and urban cleanliness—laying the groundwork for a cleaner, more organized Lagos Island.

Now, as the flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC), he is contesting for the position of Chairman, Lagos Island Local Government in the July 12th elections. His campaign isn’t built on noise or royal privilege—it is grounded in empathy, action, and a long-standing track record.

His campaign mantra is “Ajumose” — Togetherness. His vision is simple yet transformative:

Upgrade public health centres across Lagos Island.

Improve infrastructure—repair roads and desilt drainages.

Provide palliatives to the elderly and learning tools for students in public schools.

Launch youth employment and digital literacy programs.

Preserve the cultural legacy of Lagos Island while enhancing its tourism value.

In his words:

“My administration will embark on an aggressive revenue drive. We will disburse grants to small and medium-scale businesses and empower artisans and technicians to boost the local economy and raise the standard of living across Isale Eko, Olowogbowo, and Oko Faji.”

On the campaign trail, he is seen not in royal robes but in rolled-up sleeves—shaking hands, listening, working. His commitment is not ceremonial—it is practical, personal, and deeply rooted in the legacy of service.

As the story unfolds, Lagos Island watches not just a prince—but a servant-leader—with vision, integrity, and heart.
