Taraba Finance Commissioner Caught in ICAN Exam Impersonation Scandal

A woman has been caught allegedly sitting the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) examination on behalf of Sarah Enoch Adi, the Commissioner for Finance in Taraba State.

In a video published by Sahara Reporters, exam supervisors interrogated the suspect, who identified herself as Leavitt Felix, after discovering that the registered candidate for the paper was Commissioner Adi.

When pressed, Felix admitted she was writing the exam on behalf of Adi. She, however, denied knowing the commissioner personally, claiming instead that she had been hired by a man identified only as Joshua. She said she did not know his surname or place of work.

Supervisors flagged inconsistencies in her statements, including her earlier claim of working with the Ministry of Finance, which directly links to the commissioner. The officials warned that the case could be handed over to the police if she failed to provide further details.

> “All the information we are getting here… we are going to get some double information from the police,” one supervisor said in the video. “We want to make it easy. So, if you give us the information, you just go.”

This development adds to a series of controversies trailing Commissioner Adi since her appointment. In August, Taraba civil servants called for her removal alongside Accountant General Gauis Danjuma after a biometric verification exercise reportedly removed more than 7,000 legitimate workers, including senior directors, from the payroll.

Mrs. Adi, born on April 9, 1973, in Wukari, holds multiple academic qualifications, including a Doctorate in Accounting (2023) from Nasarawa State University, Keffi, and a Master’s in Banking and Finance (2011) from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. Governor Agbu Kefas appointed her Commissioner for Finance, Budget, and Economic Planning in August 2023.

ICAN and the Taraba State Government are yet to officially comment on the impersonation scandal.
