The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has successfully commissioned two new high-capacity power transformers at its Agbara and Ajah transmission substations, both located within the Lagos Region.
According to a statement released on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, by Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, the company has energized a 150MVA transformer at the Agbara Transmission Substation and a 110MVA transformer at the 330/132/33kV Ajah Transmission Substation.
At the Agbara Substation in Ogun State, the installation of the new 150MVA transformer has expanded the station’s total capacity from 150MVA to 275MVA. This significant upgrade is expected to greatly enhance the bulk power supply delivered to the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (Eko DisCo) for onward distribution to consumers in Agbara, OPIC, Badagry, Ishasi, Ajara, and neighboring communities.
Similarly, the newly energized 110MVA transformer at the Ajah Substation in Lagos has increased the facility’s wheeling capacity by 59 megawatts (MW), raising its total capacity from 224MW to 283MW. This improvement will enable Eko DisCo to deliver more stable and reliable electricity to customers in areas such as Jakande, Ajah, Agungi, Chevron, and nearby districts.
Both installations were executed under the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)-funded Service Level Agreement (SLA) initiative, a collaborative effort aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s national grid and ensuring more efficient bulk power transmission across the country.
TCN reaffirmed its commitment to the continuous expansion, modernization, and reinforcement of its transmission infrastructure nationwide, emphasizing that these ongoing projects are part of a broader strategy to improve the reliability and quality of power supply to Nigerians.
