The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced plans to install an Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) cable on the Ikeja West–Akangba 330kV Transmission Line 2 as part of its ongoing efforts to upgrade the country’s Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system.
In a statement issued by TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, on Thursday, May 22, 2025, the installation is scheduled for Saturday, May 31, 2025, between 9:00 AM and 6:00 PM.
During the installation window, bulk power transmission to the Ikeja, Eko, and Ibadan Electricity Distribution Companies will be temporarily interrupted. This will result in a nine-hour electricity outage for customers in Agbara, Otta, and Abeokuta. TCN has apologized for the inconvenience and appealed for the patience and understanding of affected consumers.
In a related development, TCN will also conduct its annual preventive maintenance on a 40/44MVA 132/33kV transformer at the Omotosho Transmission Substation on Friday, May 23, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
This scheduled maintenance includes servicing the transformer and associated switchgear to ensure optimal performance. During this period, the Benin Electricity Distribution Company will be unable to supply electricity to customers connected to the Rubber Estate feeder.
TCN reiterated its commitment to reliable power transmission and thanked the public for their continued cooperation and understanding.
