There was tension at the entrance of the Abia state House of Assembly, Tuesday, as some DSS personnel allegedly beat up a policeman attached to the Assembly.
The development almost turned to a free- for -all -fight between the two sister security agencies as other policemen attached to the Assembly came out to defend their colleague.
According to Vanguard, the DSS personnel numbering about four, held a staff of the Assembly riding on a vehicle for dropping off a passenger, close to the entrance of the Assembly.
The DSS personnel stationed near the entrance of the Assembly were said to have approached the driver of the vehicle querying why he dropped off passenger at the gate, despite the order barring vehicles to stop in the area.
However, an attempt by the policeman attached to the Assembly to explain to the DSS personnel that the said driver of the vehicle, was also a staff of the House of Assembly, infuriated them.
They quickly left the driver and pounced on the policeman.
“The DSS personnel immediately pounced on the policeman and beat him up.They questioned why he came to defend the Staff. The Policeman was only trying to explain the situation before he was assaulted,” eyewitnesses said.
It was said that it took the intervention of a senior DSS personnel in the state to calm the situation, even as some legislators were said to have driven past the scene without stopping.
The police in the state is yet to react to the development as of the time of filing this report.
