Edu, Kwara State – Residents of Gbugbu community in Edu Local Government Area were thrown into panic on Sunday following an attack by suspected terrorists, who reportedly opened fire and caused widespread fear.

Sources said the assailants stormed the area in large numbers, shooting sporadically as they moved through parts of the community, prompting residents to flee for safety.
As of the time of filing this report, there were no confirmed casualties, and the number of people abducted, if any, remains unclear. The attackers were reportedly still ransacking parts of the town.

A local source told SaharaReporters that gunfire echoed for hours, leaving some residents trapped indoors while others escaped into nearby bushes. “We don’t know the number of those taken or killed yet. The situation is terrifying,” the source said.
The attack adds to a troubling pattern of violence in Edu LGA, where previous incidents have resulted in deaths, abductions, and destruction of homes, raising serious security concerns.

Security agencies were yet to release an official statement at the time of reporting, as residents call for urgent intervention to restore calm and protect lives and property.
