The Benin Traditional Council (BTC), acting on behalf of the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, has sanctioned a palace chief, a queen, and other individuals following an unauthorised visit by popular TikToker, Habeeb Hamzat Adelaja, widely known as Peller.
In a statement issued by the Council’s Secretary, Frank Irabor, the BTC described the incident as a serious breach of palace protocol, stressing that the influencer and his entourage gained access without the required approval. According to the Council, the development caused embarrassment and disrupted the peace within the palace.
“The Palace is not a public space or a venue for casual content creation. It remains a sacred institution governed by longstanding traditions and customs,” the statement emphasised.

Following a preliminary investigation, disciplinary actions were taken against those involved. A palace chief linked to the incident has been suspended indefinitely, while a staff member identified as Mr. Omuemu has been detained by the police and charged to court for allegedly aiding the unlawful entry and breaching public peace.
The Council also disclosed that a queen who appeared in the video is currently undergoing disciplinary proceedings, which could result in her removal from the palace.
Peller has been directed to present himself before the Council for questioning after reportedly failing to honour an earlier invitation. He has also been asked to issue a formal written apology or risk legal action.
Describing the incident as unfortunate, the BTC reiterated its commitment to preserving the dignity, sanctity, and cultural heritage of the Benin Palace.
In response, the Council announced stricter guidelines for access to the palace, including mandatory written applications, prior approval for visits, and the introduction of an official access pass system. It warned that anyone found entering or loitering within the palace premises without proper authorisation would face the full weight of the law.
